"Running in the winter is stupid," my friend says to me when I tell him of my run that day where I wiped out not once, not twice but three times.
While he may be right, running 40km up the side of a mountain with no training is also, as he put it, STUPID. Stupid-ER, even. A few bruises to the butt are a small price to pay for not passing out in the woods and getting eaten by a bear on my run this July.
I will admit, though, the bruises to my ego take a little longer to heal:
First fall: Happened in the first 15 seconds of my run. Woosh! Right off the sidewalk onto the street. I laid there flat on my back trying to determine if I was still alive as I squinted into the whiteness of the winter sky. I heard a car approaching so sat up and scooted over to the sidewalk. To my absolute HORROR they pulled over. It was an elderly couple and they asked me if I wanted a ride. haha! Nope, just getting started :)
Second fall: This one didn't involve me actually hitting the pavement. My route takes me past a fire station. As I'm coming up to it I noticed there are no less than 6 firemen outside shovelling their driveway. While this would normally be a good time to add a little bounce and swagger to my step, the ice was treacherous so my internal dialogue became, "Just don't fall..Stay vertical, Sara..Do. Not. Faaaallll....."
But come on, this is me. All the sudden this is happening:
Then comes a chorus of, "ooooh! careful there!" from the firemen. Then this..
Still in front of the firestation looked a little something like this:
Sans speedo, but yes every bit as sexy as you're imagining.
Still not as embarrassing as falling flat on my face at the tkd christmas party last weekend because I was trash talking my instructor and FAILED in my attempt to land a roundhouse on him while in a dress and stockings on a slippery floor :/
Grace..not my thing.
In a very distantly related topic....
Max has a better handle on this "ice" thing than his mother. On his birthday last Saturday he got his first shut out as a goalie!
It was also the first game that Grammie and Papa had made it to this season so it was a GREAT bday for Max!
